When I saw this image on your deviantart page, it really jumped out at me. It's partly because I have been taking photos of moths and butterflies, but it's mostly due to the vivid colors -- something that isn't all that common for moths.

The composition is good. Shooting it at a slight angle keeps it from looking like a formal mounted specimen. Also, it stands out nicely from the background.

While I would prefer if the very tips of the wings weren't cut off, some photographers are fond of saying that the eye is good at completing an image. I think that it distracts me because it's just the very tips that are cut off. Perhaps cropping the image so that the outer quarter of each wing is cut off will improve the image.

I like the fact that the background has its own texture, but that it doesn't distract from the subject.

There is a lot to be said for photographing subjects that have character -- a twisted tree, for instance. In this case, however, I wish the moth was in more pristine condition. That's more a matter of preference than anything else.

In general, it's a great shot that jumps out at you.
